The Legends

Joy - Paradise Road (1980)

This band had a big hit in the 70's and toured Britain and some of Europe with this gorgeous song from years ago. From left to right, the late Brenda Fassie, Thoka Ndlozi and Felicia Marian were the members of Joy. This song topped the Springbok charts for 9 consecutive weeks in 1980 and was a huge push for Brenda Fassie's singing career.

BRENDA FASSIE

Brenda, or MaBrrr as she was known by her fans, became the most popular black female singer of the 80's, "the Madonna of Africa" and beloved by the entire continent before she passed away in 2004 of a cocaine overdose.

Her hit Ag Shame lovey won her an adoring young fan base. She really became "Po-Po-Po-Po-Pu-Lar"!

She also sang about the hope of Nelson Mandela being released in "Black President"

Vulindlela was her come back hit in the nineties. It had Mzanzi and the continent pumping to that infectous beat.
